Bio

Crocodiles are San Diego’s leather-clad rock and roll weirdos. Founding members Charlie Rowell and Brandon Welchez met during their formative teenage years. They began playing together in various musical incarnations and developed a mutual love for tarnishing sunny melodies with a scuzzy recording style and lots of feedback. In April, 2008 the duo re-formed in a lo-fi capacity under the name Crocodiles. They’ve been on the road and in the studio ever since.

For their fifth album, Crocodiles set up shop in Mexico City to record with producer Martin Thulin. During these sessions, the duo continued refining the pop aspects of their sound, while incorporating some Latin influences. The resulting Boys LP was released in May, 2015 on Welchez’s own Zoo Music label. According to the band, this filthy, funky, pop record should be advertised as–– “A party record; a record to shave your head to; a record to sniff glitter to; a record to fan your smoldering disdain with; a wonder craft of beauty & trash; a hot burrito record.”

The band’s next full-length release (Dreamless) was also recorded south of the border, with Thulin once again at the helm. Dreamless has guitars taking a backseat to synthesizers, pianos and organs. While it’s a major departure from their signature sound, the prominent basslines and dirty bubble gum hooks keep it centered, keep it fun and keep it Crocodiles.

Album number seven (Love Is Here) is now in the can, and it’s scheduled to drop in early 2019.
