Bio
SIRSY is a rock and soul duo with loads of pop sensibility and just the right amount of sass. The Boston Globe sums it up nicely, “Little band. Big Sound.”
SIRSY is fronted by charismatic vocalist Melanie (Mel) Krahmer, who is described by Times Union as, “One of the most powerful & flexible voices you’ll ever hear.” But there’s more to Mel than just her mammoth voice; she also handles rhythm section duties for the group. Mel plays a full drum kit while standing up, adding bass parts via a keyboard that’s mounted to her kit, and played with her drumsticks. Mel is endorsed by Paiste Cymbals and Vater Percussion. She’s been featured in Modern Drummer Magazine. Guitarist Rich Libutti fills in the rest of the SIRSY sound with his well-loved and road-worn Rickenbacker, that’s patched through an assortment of vintage effects. Live, Rich also plays a keyboard bass… with his feet. “The guitar player is flawless and raw. Clean enough to be enjoyed, and just edgy enough to make you grin,” said SXSW’s official music blog.
SIRSY makes their living on the road. For the past 10 years, the duo has averaged over 250 shows annually, crisscrossing the nation in their little white van that’s aptly name, Miles (in honor of the 60k+ miles added to the odometer each year). In addition to their normal headline slots, SIRSY has opened for dozens of national acts, including the likes of: Maroon 5, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Train, RaRaRiot, Third Eye Blind, Collective Soul, Lifehouse, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick, and many more.
While on the road, SIRSY is currently hard at work writing new songs for a follow-up to their latest "Sketches and Ghosts" EP and "Coming Into Frame" LP, the latter of which was produced by Grammy-winners, Paul Kolderie & Sean Slade (Radiohead, Hole, Dresden Dolls, Pixies). SIRSY’s song “Cannonball” was featured on Showtime’s popular "Shameless" series. Their song “Revolution” was used as the theme for a PBS documentary titled, "So Right, So Smart".
